The Slow Down Project

By Lindsay

The Slow Down Project just happened

from a fleeting idea

probably my subconscious

telling me to enjoy

my often

twice daily

strolls in the park.

One evening

I posted a sixteen second video

of the cloud layers

dancing at different speeds across my screen.

I realized I often don’t watch stories longer than it takes me to read the caption

and so I posted a second story

calling everyone out (myself included)

on probably not watching those 16 seconds.

I got a fair amount of responses

acknowledging my call-out

and others who said they went back to watch it entirely.

Thus began my desire to capture movement, sound, and texture

with every video

as a small daily practice for me to slow down.

It’s been about 3.5 years witnessing the ebbs and flows

of Mānoa’s rainy abundance and crispy heat

and so here I share with you

a quiet, rainy morning

at my favorite spot

the stream.
